General Dentistry

We offer a wide range of both private and NHS dental treatments to ensure oral and dental health. These include preventative (eg. oral health advice with a focus on prevention, dental check-ups and cleaning), restorative (eg. fillings) and cosmetic ( eg. Veneers, tooth coloured filling and tooth whitening).

  • Fillings (amalgam and composite)

  • Composite bonding

  • Crowns and Bridges

A crown is a ‘cap’ used to rebuild a tooth that is broken/worn and covers the tooth. A bridge is an appliance that is fixed into place to replace a missing tooth. Both are custom made and can be made to ‘match’ the surrounding teeth.
  • Veneers

This is like a false ‘fingernail’ for your tooth which is fixed in place to improve the appearance of a discoloured or broken tooth.
  • Dentures

These are ‘false teeth’ which are removable and can replace missing teeth. These can be made in acrylic or metal and are custom made through a series of appointments.
  • Endodontics

If a tooth nerve (pulp) becomes painful or infected due to bacteria or trauma a root canal treatment may be required. This involves removing the nerve and cleaning the canal to then fill. A crown may be advised after this treatment.
  • Extractions

We can offer this for teeth that cannot be saved and discuss replacing the lost tooth/teeth.
  • Grinding and clenching habits

We regularly check for signs of tooth wear and/or signs or clenching/grinding. You can discuss with your dentist any concerns you may have, and we can provide an appliance to wear to reduce wear on teeth or any pain in jaw/headaches.
  • Cancer screening

At each examination your dentist will carry out a cancer screening and this will include checking your tongue, cheeks, palate and discuss any risk factors.

  • Emergency treatment

We offer emergency appointments to our patients and aim to see them on the same day of the emergency. We also offer emergency appointments to patients who are not registered (subject to availability).
  • Emergencies include:

toothache/abscess, trauma and sports injuries, swelling face/mouth, loose/lost crowns, fractured dentures.

Paediatric Dentistry

At Downshire we endeavour to promote oral health and believe this begins at an early age. We are a family friendly practice and encourage children to get registered as soon as babies first tooth erupts. This is to ensure the parents gain the right advice at an early stage, to encourage good oral health and eating habits and to encourage a positive experience at an early age. We also provide fissure sealants to protect the child’s teeth and white fillings at an additional charge.

Injectable fillersand/or wrinkle relaxing injections can be used to soften expression lines of expression, define facial contours, rejuvenate the skin and can give you a more youthful look.

  • Botulinum Toxin Type A

This can be used to soften the lines in the face seen during the movement of muscles, therefore reducing the wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), frown lines, and furrows on the forehead. The results of which usually last between 3-6 months.
  • Injectable fillers

This can be used where volume has been lost in the facial area and lips to smooth lines and give a more youthful appearance.

Cosmetic Orthodontics

If you are concerned regarding the position of your teeth and considering braces to straighten your teeth, feel free to book a consultation with either Catherine or Tracey who can advise you on the best options and pros and cons for each, treatment time frames, and associated costs. For some patients the best option is to see an orthodontist for a more comprehensive plan, however for some adults with mid-moderate problems, you may be suitable for cosmetic orthodontics option at Downshire Dental. Here we use discrete tooth-coloured braces or clear aligners used to straighten teeth. This option can give excellent results and in a shorter time frame.

Cosmetic Dentistry

  • Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a safe and effective way of lightening and brightening your natural teeth colour. This involves the application of a gel into custom fit trays over a period of 2-3 weeks to improve the overall shade of your teeth.
  • Tooth Coloured fillings

Advances in dentistry means that tooth-coloured fillings (composite fillings) can be used to fill teeth that would have otherwise been filled with unsightly silver fillings which can discolour a tooth over time. These white fillings are moulded, and shade matched to your tooth. They are bonded in place which means we can be more conservative in the preparation of your tooth.
